This was my first walking holiday., and I was travelling alone and intending a solo walk. On Foot Holidays was a great choice for me. They were very responsive to my inquiry emails, provided very detailed info about the walk (6 nights, 5 days), arranged for lovely accommodation and provided either reservations or suggestions for meals and as a solo walker I really appreciated the daily check in with a local guide and the detailed walking instructions, maps and GPS guides.

We had a wonderful time in Umbria, a part of Italy that felt uncrowded and natural - hard to find these days. We walked through hills, towns, olive groves and grapevines that reminded us of Tuscany and explored an old deserted village with stories still to tell. We stopped for lunch beside shady overgrown creeks and gentle waterfalls. Our hosts were friendly and served up outstanding meals. We had a rest day and took a cooking class overseen by a real-life no-nonsense Italian Nonna, We saw an old abbey in a lively town where we stopped to have a spritz. We climbed an overgrown hill and explored the crumbling, deserted ruins of yet another abbey with far off views of Rome. In all ,a lovely walking holiday.

Rating for On Foot Holidays:

This is the 8th Walking Holiday we've taking with On Foot Holidays and we've always had excellent trips, communication and accommodations. Their routes are well and thoughtfully designed with options to shorten or lengthen as desired. Love the flexibility and sensitivity toward their clients. Our only problem is that we can't decide which Walk to do NEXT.

Walking through the Ligurian Hills to the coast was a fabulous experience. Beautiful weather, changing landscapes, varied vegetation and a range of walking conditions all contributed to a trek that was interesting, frequently spectacular and challenging enough to give us a real sense of achievement. What a beautiful landscape! Accommodation was comfortable, hosts welcoming, food excellent and plentiful.

Such a wonderful way to experience Turkey. Each day was an adventure, seeing new stunning scenery, and hiking a new trail. The best of both worlds, the hike started in the hills and ended by the sea. The hills of Turkey are big and bold with a climb to match. We loved getting to know Mount Olympus personally, first by viewing her, then by climbing her, getting amongst her flora and fauna then slowly seeing her in the distance as we moved towards the sea. Reaching the sea felt like a gift, plunging ourselves into what I can say is the clearest bluest water I have seen. What really tops off the entire experience is meeting the hosts at each destination. Particularly in the hills we felt welcomed in like we were old friends. This is our second On Foot Holiday and it was as incredible as our first and I look forward to hiking a third somewhere in the world with On Foot Holidays. I really want to thank the On Foot team for organizing a wonderful walking holiday.

Rating for On Foot Holidays:

On Foot Holidays made organizing a walking holiday easy. They were were always responsive, friendly and incredibly helpful. We wanted to add an extra day so we could tour to Pamukkale and On Foot organized everything. This is our second adventure holiday with On Foot and part of the reason it was a no brainer to book a tour with them the second time round and I certainly would book a third trip with them.

We'd long been curious about the Peloponnese in Greece but had no idea it would have such beautiful forests and lush green meadows. The Menalon trail is a great way to enjoy this varied countryside and all the flora and fauna that go with it. Plus there are a couple of fascinating monasteries you can visit en route. Walking from village to village, we stayed in small guest houses, all offering delicious breakfast to set you up for a day of hiking and with friendly helpful hosts. We met a handful of other walkers and it was good to swap notes or have a cool drink together. A wonderfully refreshing holiday.

Rating for On Foot Holidays:

On Foot planned and arranged our trip with great attention to detail and keeping us informed at every step. It felt like a very personal service. The app they offer to support the hike was extremely helpful with route guidance and background information..

Very pleasant easy point to point walking from Lake Maggiore to Lake Orta. Although the walks were not particularly long we found plenty to interest us in thw way of buildings, history, flowers and birds as well as the lakes themselves. We were glad we added a day at the start to give us an oppor6 to use the local ferries to get to the garden islands and across the lakes. We liked our hotels, all different in character but all felt friendly and relaxed. Breakfast on a sunny terrace with tree sparrows at our feet and swallows zipping past is hard to beat

We walked as a couple in the unspoiled countryside of Cilento, at times by the coast and other times inland following the detailed instructions on the App provided. The scenery was superb and the walks were interesting. The level of difficulty was as described by On Foot so there were no unexpected challenges! The hotels were thoughtfully chosen to be comfortable and welcoming, and to give a flavour of the "real" Cilento. Our luggage was moved between hotels for us. At the suggestion of On Foot we took the opportunity to visit the Greek and Roman temples at Paestum at the end of our walking holiday, and also added on a couple of nights in Naples allowing us to visit the archaeological site at Herculaneum.

Rating for On Foot Holidays:

On Foot organised the route, accommodation and transfers and we felt confident in their hands. (We organised travel to the start of the walk ourselves, with useful guidance from On Foot). The information was all provided on an easy to use App, which included route notes and maps, GPS tracking (so we couldn't get lost!), travel information, suggestions about where to eat out as well as a host of other useful information about the area and points of interest. We knew that we also had local back up by phone if any problems should arise (which they did not!). We would highly recommend On Foot as a tour operator, who always go the extra mile to make sure their customers get the experience they were hoping for. We have not been disappointed in the 15 years we have been walking with On Foot.

We met up with our Australian walking friends in Ljubljana and met Miha, our "man on the ground". I had texted him beforehand. Having this contact was so helpful and solved the how-do-I-get-started-mystery. Miha drove us to Kranska Gorda, our starting point. . He knew the area well and took us up to a mountain pass and explained a bit of the grim history. The daily walks were well planned and clearly explained 3 ways: written text, the App and hard copy maps. These were not "walks in the park" with clear way marking and did require our attention to detail and some re-tracking. Each day's trek was planned well and we could tell that the instructions were written by someone who actually knew the trails. All of the logistics: the luggage transport, the taxi pickups, etc. worked perfectly. We usually took more time than estimated because of constant photography and the fact that we're in our late 70's/early 80's and our Australian friends are in their early 60's. Fortunately the terrain in the Julian Alps allowed us to stay two nights in each location. The accommodations: we loved each place: a hotel, a small apartment for each of us., upstairs bedrooms in a large house and a former convent. The hosts were extraordinarily personal and helpful, especially with regard to our soaking wet boots. At the house, we came during the host's husband's 65th birthday, but she treated us as if we were the most important guests. The food: It was delicious. The App gave restaurant suggestions that were excellent and when food (breakfast, bag lunches and dinner) were provided we were overwhelmed by the quality and quantity. The App: this was an amazing technological triumph. We have worked with five other walking companies over the years and OFH nailed this one. The introduction video explained how to use it; we referred to it all the time. And it worked! The big plastic sleeves looked silly around our necks, but, again, they worked well. Over the years were have had maps and directions that dissolved in the rain. Not this time.. We have taken self guided walks in Australia, Japan, England, Wales, Spain, France. So we bring a lot of experience to this walk. We are planning our second walk with OFH for the fall of 2025.

Rating for On Foot Holidays:

From my first inquiry about hikes in Slovenia, OFH hit a positive note with us: they suggested that we take the Slovenian Highlands route, based on our experience. Then they helped us combine our dual booking into one and pay separately. Setting up bookings, arranging the finance and international funds is complicated at best, but OFH has integrated those things seamlessly. I was the team leader, so to speak, but OFH quickly answered inquiries from me and my Australian as well. Our communications with OFH were both personal and professional--as if they really knew us. I made some mistakes along the way in managing on my end and was nicely corrected. They were careful about who and when to send our separate Holiday Packages. I was between Seattle and Boston making things on my end complicated. However, after telling OFH about this issue, DHL took a photo of my package being hand delivered to my tenant living in our Boston house so we knew it was delivered. I know these are small details but OFH never missed a beat. Finally, OFH gave us additional materials that were helpful, e.g. personal itinerary summary booklet and an historical summary booklet.

The people at On Foot Holidays knocked it out of the park (that's a good thing for people who don't appreciate baseball references!)! For initial communications and planning to executing the trip, every detail was clear and clean and the process was easy. This set up and the incredible Basque Pyrenees and its inhabitants (4 and 2-legged) added to the splendor of this trip. The walks were long - but very doable in a day and took us through some of the most peaceful and serene landscapes. Coming from the US, we were amazed by how well cared for the lands were. We saw literally one piece of litter in 7 days of walking. These people respect and take care of the lands that takes care of them. They could teach the rest of us something.

Rating for On Foot Holidays:

The people at On Foot Holidays were the best of any booking service we have ever dealt with. Great communication, planning, execution and just a pleasure to interact with. We have already recommended them to friends - who I am confident will be in touch.

My wife and I made a 6-day walking tour of the Dordogne region of France. Our tour operator was "On Foot Holidays" which we used for a previous self-directed walking tour of the Dorset region of England. The walks were bucolic, well-marked, and beautiful. Varied scenery was the norm, ranging from pastoral vistas to moderate climbs, cascading waterfalls, and quaint villages. Accommodations at the end of the day provided a warm welcome for us as well as a delicious dinner and a warm and comfortable bed. The next morning we had breakfast and most of the hotels provided a packed lunch too! Despite not being French-speakers, we had virtually no problems with communication. We simply loved our time in "the Dordogne" and look forward to our next adventure with "On Foot Holidays".

Rating for On Foot Holidays:

We discovered "On Foot Holidays" on an Internet search looking for self-directed walking holidays. The web site was the most organized and helpful of all the companies we reviewed. Communication with OFH was easy and always helpful. Further, there was a sense of true caring and wanting to do the very best for us. Responses were always personal. It felt as if we were part of a "family". All aspects of the trip were exceedingly well-organized ranging from the accommodations to the taxi service for transporting our luggage as well at times ourselves. There was voluminous background information provided about what we might see along the way as well as historical information that provided a real context for what we were seeing. OFH also provided information as to how we were to get from the airport to our initial destination as well as information on getting from our last destination to the airport. OFH provided an App that all pertinent information was available with the click of our iPhone, and it also had details about our daily walks and a GPS function that ensured that we never were at risk of getting lost. I have nothing but the highest praise for the organization and people that power this tour operator. It is of the highest caliber.

We started in Zahara and finished in Ronda. We found the walks suitable for our fitness level and the good weather helped to make it a success. The App which we used to guide our walks was very clear and comprehensive. The hotels (apart from one, and On Foot were very responsive in relation to this), were perfect for us. We love traveling to “untouristy” destinations and this certainly fit the bill. The rural areas we traveled through were quiet, peaceful, and had beautiful scenery. The two coastal towns we stayed in were also lovely and offered a nice balance of cafes, restaurants, etc set against the backdrop of the sea. We traveled in the spring so there was an abundance of spring wildflowers on our walks. Several times we would encounter old, abandoned stone houses in the countryside surrounded by a field of flowers. Often, we would walk along fields that included olive trees, lemon trees, and grape vines. Interspersed were quaint, unspoiled hillside villages. The accommodations were wonderful. Our hosts were warm and friendly. The food was great and the places we stayed were very comfortable. We had such a good time that we are already looking at options for our next hike with On Foot Holidays.

Rating for On Foot Holidays:

I cannot say enough about how great On Foot Holidays is. If we had a question, someone would usually get back to us within their workday. The only time the response was next day was due to the time difference between the UK and the US. And, shout out to Fiona who spent about 45 minutes on the phone with us once to describe a specific route we were considering! How often does that happen? Everyone we communicated with were friendly and extremely professional.

A magnificent 7 days of walking through the beautiful rolling hillsides, farmlands, forests , and medieval villages, all interspersed with amazing views along the way. There were also side ventures from visiting a Medieval Castle to exploring massive underground caves. All of the logistics were impeccably organized. The hotels and inns we stayed at made us feel welcome and we met some bright souls along the way. The food we ate was also fabulous as it included some Michelin restaurants. The weather was very good with only one day of rain, and the rest generally sunny and warm.

Rating for On Foot Holidays:

OnFoot was super friendly, organized and helpful before during and after our trip. Everything went according to plan. The walking instructions were clear and the app they provided was helpful and kept us on track. The accomodations were varied but all enjoyable in their own way. The local contact was always available to help during our travel and we took advantage of this a couple of times to help arrange short cuts and trips to visit some sights.

We completed the 6 night Basque Pyrenees to San Sebastian hike and loved every minute. There was enough challenge in the hill climbs to get the blood pumping and the legs working, and enough drama in the via ferrata section to get a buzz, without real fear of of slipping (much easier to say no it is done!). We went in late May and the weather was perfect. I am not sure if this is normal for for that time of the year but the sun shone us and the breeze came in when we needed it. The accommodation each night was of a high standard, with most being places we would definitely chose to stay in. Last time we used On Foot (Dolomites) we extended our stay by additional nights and if we had the time for this trip we really would have loved to have stayed in some of the same accommodations in the villages/towns for an additional night - just to make the most of them! We used the map app and walking notes - this took all the stress out of having to map read and we were able to take it all in and enjoy what was going on around us. Forest and farmlands, ridge walks, Pyrenees ponies, and every corner turned opening up to another spectacular view. Aznar, our local contact, was there if we needed him and the recommendations made for where to eat when dinner was not included were spot on. We were absolutely confident that if anything happened or support was required, Aznar would have been able to sort it out. San Sebastian is the perfect reward at the end of the hike! We had an extra night there at the end, and could have easily had another. A gorgeous place to explore, and eat/drink your way around. Finally, the other two groups doing the hike at the same time as us were brilliant. Great to be able to catch up with others at the end of the day, but still feel like the mountains all to ourselves.

Rating for On Foot Holidays:

As mentioned we have used On Foot before and are making plans to book again. We feel confident in booking with them knowing that everything will be taken care of and all we need to do is make sure we are hike ready. Any questions are answered quickly and all efforts are made to ensure there is nothing to worry about in the lead up to the trip, and during it. Love the range of options on offer and how easy it is to add nights. On Foot also make sure there are options to shorten distances or skip trickier bits. We haven't had to use these options - yet - but appreciate that they are there!
